Madasafish.com
While working at Brightview I had the opportunity to work on many different websites, but by far the one that I spent the most time on was Madasafish.com. This was the company's flagship brand, and it underwent two complete re-designs during my nearly 3 years at Brightview.
The design of the site was carried out by our in-house designer, and the copy was supplied by the Marketing department, it was my job to combine the two and bring the pages to life. From changing a single word to a complete re-build of the site, as the only front-end developer in a small company; working on a site that I wrote or implemented all the front-end code and was working with on an almost daily basis, it was all too easy to think of the site as one of my own. As a result, I was always looking to tweak the site to try and make it more accessible, more search engine friendly, or more usable for the visitors.
Being the only front-end developer did have it's disadvantages though, my part in a project was always the last one before testing, and thing meant that I was always being expected to absorb everyone else's delays in order to keep things on schedule. One of the most memorable of these occurances was during one of the Madasafish redesigns, instead of having 4 weeks to build all of the pages for the new site ready for testing, I was left with just 10 days! There was a couple of late nights at the office, and some working out of hours from home during those 10 days but I managed it, the site went to testing and launched on schedule. I may not always appreciate it at the time, but everytime something like this happens, I always look back after launch proud, and thinking about how I work best under the pressures of a looming deadline.
